Lawmakers Intend to Investigate OSSAA Practices

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – Several state lawmakers have requested approval of a study during the interim to investigate the practices and procedures used by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) in responding to complaints and handling student appeals.

 

The lawmakers asked for the study after hearing from parents from all across the state who are raising questions and expressing frustrations with the methods used by the OSSAA.

 

Gov. Fallin signs bill regulating boat rental businesses

With lake season quickly approaching, Gov. Fallin signed legislation Monday to ensure eligibility for boat rental businesses to operate in state parks.  Sen. Bill Brown, author of Senate Bill 374, said the measure will protect legitimate, rule-abiding businesses.

Rep. Bennett Meets with Constituents at Capitol

State Rep. John Bennett met with several of his constituents from various organizations at the Capitol last week.

 

Bennett met with Pastor Jose Velasquez, Pastor Shawn Money and the pastors and deacons from 1st Assembly of God church in Muldrow, Okla. They all attended the Tuesday devotional at the House of Representatives and Senate last week. Bennett also met with ladies from the Sequoyah County supporting public libraries. Among these ladies were Bethia Owens, Martha Adams and Addie Griffen.

 

Bennett Sends Letter Requesting Re-Opening of Arkansas River Campgrounds

– Due to the Federal Sequester, the United States government made cuts to its budget, including closures of certain federal property.

 

Included in the Sequester was the closure of the Arkansas River campgrounds. State Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, has sent official requests to Oklahoma’s Congressional delegation to get those campgrounds re-opened.

 

Gun Manufacturer Responds to Legislators’ Invitation to Relocate to Oklahoma

A prominent Maryland firearms manufacturer responded recently to a letter several Oklahoma lawmakers sent earlier this year inviting it to relocate to Oklahoma if stringent gun restrictions were enacted in that state.

 

Beretta U.S.A., Corp. sent a letter to state Rep. John Bennett and others thanking them for the invitation and indicating that Oklahoma would be a potential state to relocate to in the future.

This week I’d like to introduce you to some remarkable agriculture-minded young people with whom I’ve been very impressed.

The first one on my list of notables is Tara McKinney from Spiro. She had heard about the horse processing bill, SB 375, and she called my office to introduce herself as an OSU Animal Science senior – and to volunteer her services.

Allen says Senate Bill 965 would give southeastern Oklahoma a seat on the Water Resources Board

State Sen. Mark Allen is championing a bill that he says would give southeastern Oklahoma representation on the state’s Water Resources Board.  Allen said that while the current structure of the board includes members from each of the state’s congressional districts, it doesn’t translate to fair representation for all the regions of the state.
